Landscape Proximity

Overhanging branches, encroaching plant life, and vegetation close to the house can increase the risk of fire, structural damage, and pest infestation.

Optimal

Trees are pruned back with no branches overhanging the roof or close to windows. Shrubs and bushes are positioned at a safe distance (at least two feet from house) to allow proper airflow. Vegetation is trimmed to ensure it doesn’t block vents, gutters, or siding, preventing moisture buildup and pest intrusion.

Cautionary

Some branches may be overhanging the roof but are not yet causing damage. Shrubs and bushes are closer to the home than ideal, and some vegetation may be near vents or gutters, though not yet causing issues.

Hazardous / Out of Range

Tree branches are heavily overhanging or in direct contact with the roof, potentially damaging shingles, gutters, or siding or blocking ventilation. Bushes and shrubs are in direct contact with the home, causing moisture buildup or pest infestations. Vegetation blocks or clogs vents, gutters, or downspouts, causing water draining issues and increasing the risk of water damage or mold.
